Dr. Karim Sarhane - Cancer Surgeon Working in UAE

A diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, Karim Sarhane, MD, is a surgeon at the Burjeel Royal Hospital in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). He joined the hospital in 2022 as a surgeon in general and advanced laparoscopic surgery, and he became the head of the department in 2024. Karim Sarhane, MD, primarily focuses on surgical oncology, providing care to patients with thyroid, breast, and colorectal cancer.

Prior to Burjeel Royal Hospital, Dr. Karim Surhane was a general surgery resident at the University of Toledo Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio. There, he provided surgical care to various patients. In that period, he performed the highest number of complex surgery cases, published the most research papers, and became the first foreign surgery graduate elected an Honorary Member of the Toledo Surgical Society. He was the chief resident in his last two years. He taught numerous medical students and junior residents the principles of surgery.

Previously, Dr. Karim Sarhane was a postdoctoral research fellow at the John Hopkins University School of Medicine. He developed innovative research ideas, wrote research grant applications, and gave presentations before national medical organizations. Dr. Karim Sarhane earned his doctor of medicine (MD) and MS in biochemistry and molecular genetics from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon.

Dr. Karim Sarhane won research grants from organizations including the American Foundation for Surgery of the hand, and he holds two patents. He is also an associate editor for Frontiers in Pediatrics and a review editor for Frontiers in Surgery.
